(3) Program planning designed to be in congruence with the school's philosophy and community characteristics;
(4) Encouragement of activity advisers and officers to affiliate with state and national organizations; and
(5) Development of a well thought-out fund raising policy.
According to Pinkston-McKee (1990), student activities programs are used by colleges and universities to assist students with their academic and social adjustment to college life and, thereby, to retain them as students. Pinkston-McKee reports that retention is an important factor in the planning, design, and implementation of student activities programs because the consequences of attrition are financial losses for both the colleges and for the students themselves in terms of their future earnings potential.
