A meta-study which included analysis of 300 studies, reported that preschoolers demonstrate more physical aggression due to TV violence viewing, than do children up to 10 years of age. It has also been demonstrated that effects increase for boys and decrease for girls during adolescence (Josephson, p. 5).

Many factors may influence the effect of TV violence, including differences among the child, and the context in which they watch TV (Josephson, p. 5). The amount of TV watched, including nonviolent TV with high arousal levels, identification with TV personalities, belief in TV as being real, low intellectual achievement, and lack of parental monitoring are all predictors of TV violence leading to aggression (Singer, Miller, Guo, Flannery, 1999, p. 878; Smith).
