end result of this process is a creamy, somewhat acidic liquid known as chyme. The chyme continues to move into the small intestine, where bicarbonate is released from the pancreas (pancrease) in order to neutralize the acidic content of the chyme. The gallbladder also aids digestion by releasing bile which breaks down fats into lipids.

The small intestine is lined with thousands of villi and microvilli which are there to increase surface areas and absorption of the chyme. The epithelium selectively allows molecules to pass to the rest of the body through the blood in the capillaries and through extracellular fluid in lymph vessels. The chyme continues to move into the large intestine where the colon is specializes to absorb water and ions. The cellulose and fiber from the lettuce and tomato seeds and wheat bread act as roughage in the process. The food that is not absorbed is left over and stored in the rectum where it is later eliminated as waster. The nutrients from the bacon, lettuce, and tomato sandwich that are broken down and absorbed by the blood stream pass to other parts of the body through the inferior vena cava, where they are then pumped by the heart to the aorta and jugular veins in order for nutrients to reach the brain and other vital body parts to maintain healthy functioning.

Like digestion, the respiratory process of the human body is an intake, conversion, and exhaust system. Oxygen molecules enter our body when we breathe in or inhale and carbon dioxide is given off as a waster product when we breathe out or exhale. In between, the oxygen molecules are converted through the process known as respiration. Like the closed digestive system, so, too, the respiratory system is a closed system involving
