This type of research may explain why blacks not only suffer from hypertension at a higher rate, but also why the effects of it are more detrimental to their health.
One study found that the disease was more likely to be fatal for blacks than whites, even when both received an equal level of hi-tech medical care. This study found that some of the reasons may be a greater occurrence of diabetes in blacks, cultural factors and a greater likelihood for whites to seek out hi-tech treatment more readily than blacks.
