tlantic Inter-Communicating zone was prompted by a desire for increased exploration and trade. However, this development occurred in one way largely as the result of military conflicts. Like the U.S. and UN become involved in military struggles to establish democracies that will support human rights and open trade in modern times, so military struggles were responsible for increasing the level of inter-communication in the Atlantic zone. Equiano’s stories retell the horrific consequences of warring at sea but also demonstrate how battles eventually became a means of inter-communication once the canon fire ended. For these battles not only symbolized military conflict, but they were chances for adventure and exploration that opened new lands and peoples to those who were victorious. As Olaudah comments, “Our ship had orders to fit out again on another expedition. When we got ready, we joined a very large fleet at Spithead, commanded by Commodore Keppel, which was destined against Belle-Isle, and with a number of transport ships with troops on board to make a descent on the place. We sailed once more in quest of fame. I longed to engage in new adventures and see fresh wonders” (Edwards 50). We also see in A World History that military conflicts were only one factor responsible for increasing the inter-communication zone. There were push factors (England’s desire for increased riches) as well as pull factors. We see one of these pull factors helping create such a zone in the Atlantic was the nature of the early America itself. For the nature of the colonies was such that those there had a need for additional manpower, manpower most often supplied by the slave trade from Europe:
