There is something transcendent of human perception in Hamlet and it is a high level of conscious awareness. It is an awareness that a Protestant society might allow because of freer values regarding internal reflection, but, Hamlet also lived in a time of Christian influence and aspects of both are evident within his character-one reason he may be so undecided much of the time because of the contrasting values in his society.

The theories of Durkheim were centered in religion.
