Mohammad Reza Shah also dreamed of an Iran that was rid of any foreign influence or control. However, he was determined, unlike his father, to create an internal economic and social revolution that would cure the stalled economic development of Iran. From 1950 to 1968, Iran’s economic development would still not “take-off”, even though the shah did accept foreign aid and political alignment as necessary evils for Iran’s move from underdeveloped to developed nation:
