Doctor’s often support the positive benefits of using marijuana for medical reasons, but they are often remiss to involve themselves in the issue because of potential legal and professional issues. Out of compassion they often refer their patients who could benefit from its use to case workers or other social services personnel who inform them where they might seek the drug. In California, where the high number of cases of AIDS prompted many physicians to overlook the laws, there is an effort to pass legislation that would absolve doctor’s of any ramifications from their prescribing the drug for patients. The legislation proposed in California mirrors the type of legislation that is argued is also needed when it comes to euthanas
