As a future director, I have been religiously studying the art of filmmaking the past few months in a variety of ways. First, I have immersed myself in note-taking, character notes, scraps of dialogue, plot ideas, title ideas, summaries, and concepts which I believe when culled will yield many excellent ideas for both documentary and fiction films. I have done this in various ways. I have read avariciously anything that I believe enhances my skills as filmmaker, from psychology and philosophy books to articles on civil rights. I have also studies different forms and types of music and made notes regarding the tone, mood or theme the music invoked within me, ones which I can later use when that mood suits a particular portion of film. I have also studied classic Hollywood films from the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s when filmmaking was an art and the craft approached a pinnacle to which it has failed to return.
