Off to the right of the famous couple is a cherub, one of two in the painting, a horse, another tree and the sky which are all layered behind the couple further adding depth of perspective to the work. Except for the clothing and helmet of Mars and the garment of Venus, most of the brush strokes are broad and flat. However, these are intricate in decoration, especially the helmet of Mars.
