Diverse Textiles is a company comprised of a diverse ethnic population wherein 50% of employees are African-American, 30% Hispanic American, and 20% other. Because of rising health care costs, employers have begun designing and implementing worksite wellness programs, “Wellness programs are found in approximately two thirds of the nation’s worksites employing 50 or more employees, and about 20% of the nation’s colleges and universities” (Fisher and Fisher 1). The result of implementing such programs is directly related to the bottom line of a company’s balance sheet. Worksite wellness programs have been shown to save from 7 to 17 percent in health care costs, and large companies who have implemented them save millions of dollars a year on lower health care costs, “In ten years, AT&T’s health promotion program is projected to save the company $72 million” (Worksite 2). This proposal is designed to discuss the design, implementation and assessment of a worksite wellness program that takes into account in its structure and goals the diverse ethnic and racial identities of Diverse Textile workers.

The proposed worksite wellness program will have a three-stage design: wellness awareness, cross-cultural promotion and integration, behavior modification. The first step in the implementation of the program will be wellness awareness. During this phase of the program, workers will have their health risk assessed through health survey questionnaires (exercise habits, consumption of alcohol, number of days per week exercises, etc.). These questionnaires will be critical on a couple of dimensions. The first aspect of significance is that they will inform management which employees are high-risk where health and health costs are concerned.
