Cafeteria Settings in Work Environments

first, a few people came into the cafeteria, then the people came in larger groups. These individuals did not purchase items from the vending machines, but brought their own in containers. In most cases, the people sat with the group they came in with, and chairs were moved around to accommodate groups of various sizes. The level of conversation increased significantly during the time the production group was on break, and people left the cafeteria in much the same way they entered (not all at once) and in the same groups.

The pay phone was used by several production people; they stood in line while one person used the phone, but not everyone who initially stood in line was able to make a call, although the reason for leaving the line was unclear. The setting does not provide for privacy when making personal calls.

After this, other people would occasionally come to the cafeteria, but this time in ones or twos. Few people
