Community policing strives to bring citizens and the police together in efforts to improve trust, improve communities, and reduce the incidence of criminal behavior. The City of Oakland Police Department developed and implemented a community policing program. The community policing program implemented by the Oakland Police Department includes a foot patrol component. The incidence of many types of criminal behavior has decreased since the inception of the community policing effort by the Oakland Police Department.
