Saint Augustine points out: "For the law of sin is the strong force of habit, which drags the mind alone and controls it even against its will--though deservedly, since the habit was voluntarily adopted. Who then should deliver me thus wretched from the body of this death, but Thy grace only, through Jesus Christ our Lord?" (Confessions 169).
