Even if this rationale justified the way women were paid, it is a rationale that no longer applies. More and more women have entered the workforce, and more and more women are the primary breadwinners for their family. The poverty rolls are filled with single mothers, single either because they were never married or because they were deserted, widowed, or otherwise left on their own with children to raise.

Consider the arguments as to why the wage gap is non-discriminatory and therefore is not to be addressed by society because it is caused by characteristics of the workforce itself.
