Nonetheless, once the forensic social workers are certain that the clients' threats to members in the community are imminent, they have the responsibility of referring the case back to the court. In the court, forensic social can serve as expert witnesses and reveal information about their clients (Brennan et al., 1986, pp. 344-5; Chambers, 2001, p. 1).
Furthermore, forensic social workers often collaborate with other agencies in order to address the situation with their clients. For example, an alcoholic client who molests his stepdaughter also requires intervention from other agencies including the police and the child welfare office. In this situation, the forensic social worker offers counseling sessions to the client and his wife, while monitoring the client's progress at home with the help of the child welfare office and the police (Brennan et al., 1986, p. 346).
Forensic social workers also serve as a tool of transition for many clients who have had negative relationships with mental health and criminal justice systems. By forming positive alliances with their forensic social workers, the clients will likely be able to transfer their positive experience to other treatment providers (Brennan et al., 1986, p. 348).
