On the other hand, young men who are unable to achieve this normal level of intimacy will display two types of behaviors. In some cases, they are quick to be intimate with others; however, the relationships are shallow and brief. On the other extreme, some young men are unable to forge intimate relationships with others at all. As a result, they tend to lead an isolated existence and deal with their feelings of loneliness by developing hateful attitudes towards others (Erikson, cited in Boeree, 1999).
