However, in spite of the fact that many research studies have been conducted on the existence of comorbid disorders in children and adolescents with BPD, little research has been conducted on the treatment of children and adolescent patients with BPD and comorbid disorders. One of these studies was conducted by Geller (1997) to assess the effectiveness of lithium on adolescents with both BPDs and SUDs. The findings indicated that lithium was more effective than the placebo in treating the participants. Nonetheless, psychosocial treatments for children and adolescents with BPDs have not been evaluated (Geller & Luby, 1997). This study will thus contribute to the gap in the literature by evaluating the different treatment options for children and adolescents with BPDs and other disorders.
