COPING STRATEGIES OF MOTHERS OF AUTISTIC CHILDRENInvitation to Participate: You are being asked to participate in a study on coping strategies of mothers of autistic children. Your participation in this research study is voluntary. Before consenting to participation in this study, please read the following information carefully. Please feel free to ask me questions about any portion of this statement. Purpose of study: The purpose of this research study is to identify coping strategies that will be helpful in alleviating the stress of all mothers of autistic children by obtaining first-hand accounts from them. Participants: Participants are mothers of at least one autistic child and more who are still living with them. They will be recruited by word-of-mouth through support groups for these mothers. Description of Procedure: If you participate in this study, you will be asked to participate in a one-on-one interview with the researcher, which will last approximately 30 minutes. For your convenience and comfort, the interview will be held at a location of your choice. With your permission, the interview will be audiotaped for further review and analysis. Risks: We anticipate no risks. Nonetheless, there is a possibility that some of the questions may make you feel sad, embarrassed, or uncomfortable.
