The research design for this study was the analytical survey method. A survey questionnaire was administered to collect the quantitative data required to allow the researcher to (a) investigate the research questions formulated for the study and (b) test hypotheses associated with each of the research questions investigated. The research design also incorporated the quantitative analyses of the data that were collected for the study. The quantitative-procedure that was applied was analysis of variance (ANOVA).

A cluster sample of 200 qualified health care providers was selected from among qualified providers in western Tennessee. A total of 20 persons was selected from each of the 10 classifications of professional health care providers.

The results of the quantitative research allowed the rejection of the null hypothesis in each analysis. By inference, each of the alternative hypotheses were accepted. The first alternative hypothesis held that health care professionals not qualified in a caring profession more so than health care professionals so qualified would support an enhanced IP prerogative for RTs. This result reflected much stronger support for an enhanced independent practice for RTs among health care professionals not qualified in a curing profession than among health care professionals so qualified.

The second alternative hypothesis held that health care professionals not qualified in a caring profession more so than health care professionals so qualified would support independent practice for RTs in principle.
