ryĆ¹the displacement of aggression, Gross (1992) points out that individuals do not vent their frustration out on the real target. Instead, they commit acts of aggression against more vulnerable groups.

This theory is highly applicable to the two articles. It is evident that there are many racial groups that are frustrated by their inability to make significant progress in their lives. When they or other family members lose their jobs, they become extremely frustrated. However, they do not unleash their frustration directly at their employers who have dismissed them. Instead, they decide to blame their unemployment on other racial groups. Because of the stereotypical image of Asian Americans as the model minority, other racial groups attribute their loss to the gains made by the Asian Americans. In impoverished neighborhoods such as Queens, the interracial tensions are also derived from the economic competition between different racial groups.
