The Management Process

In order for managers to be effective, they must understand the management process. They must retain the knowledge that they are not only managing human resources, but in charge of non-human resources and must be able to utilize and maintain their resources, both human and non. They must be as effective in planning their time as well as the team's time. Another management process that is extremely important and will continue to leverage importance in the future is that of organizing.

The effective manager of the future will be able to establish a chain of command and delegate channels of authority and communication within that command chain across organizational age tiers. They will be able to do this because they will understand and communicate effectively with their subordinates in a manner wherein they do not judge, they do not control, and they will not always need to be right.

Judging, control and the need to be right are the basic blocks that provide the framework for criticism. As managers, we should assume that what our employee has to say about the world is just as important as what we as managers have to say.á We must assume that we can learn as much from our employees as they can from us.á This can be done by entering their world through social activities and discussions. We as managers should never require our employees to enter our world in order to make contact with us.ááIf we follow these simple rules, we will be able to judge less, be less controlling, and overall give up our need to be right. Our employees will be more motivated and willing to follow and trust. This is important for working with those in generation X and Y.

It is very important for managers of the future not to have a need to be right because Generation X and Y come from a place of believing that nobody hears what they have to say and nobody cares about the message when they do gain a voice. Since the work force will shrink be...
