Apart from acknowledging these challenges, Berg and Gallagher (??) also pointed out the importance of using specific tools to address them. In certain situations when clients have not shown improvement by the third session, a therapist can work in conjunction with a team of professionals who are observing the proceedings through a one-way mirror. At the same time, they can also communicate ideas and questions to the therapist during the therapy session through telephone hookups (p. 98).
Most importantly, Berg and Gallagher (??) highlighted a series of intervention strategies and examples of questions that are posed by therapists to clients. The objectives of these questions are to: 1) Identify instances in which the problematic behavior does not occur; 2) measure the extent of the client's perceptions of the drug abuse or changes on a scale of one to ten; 3) envision a positive future without problems through miracle questions; 4) help clients cope with lack of progress; and 5) shift clients from a pessimistic to a more optimistic outlook (pp. 98-100).
