Nietzsche, in fact, regarded himself as the successor of Schopenhauer. While at Leipzig, Nietzsche was known as a very promising philologist and as a favorite student of Professor Ritschl. When a chair in philology fell vacant in 1868 at the University of Basle in Switzerland, Ritschl arranged to have Nietzsche accepted for the position. And so, Nietzsche became a professor when he was only twenty-four years old. His health was never very vigorous; after several periods of sick leave he finally retired in 1879. After this, he spent most of his time in health resorts in Switzerland. Then, in 1888, he became mentally ill and remained so until his death.

Nietzsche admired Richard Wagner most passionately. However, he had a disagreement with Wagner over Parsifal, which he considered too Christian and too full of renunciation. After Nietzsche's argument with.Wagner, he criticized the composer viciously. Yet, his main conceptions remained quite that of Wagner in the Ring. Nietzsche's superman is very similar to Siegfried, a Teutonic superhero in Wagner's operas. In a sense, Nietzsche's poetic sweep and grandeur in Thus Spake Zarathustra are very similar to Wagner's heroic and majestic orchestrations.

Turning to Nietzsche's literary achievements, some of his foremost works include Beyond Good and Evil (1336) and Thus Spake Zarathustra (1385), among others. The Will to Power was published in 1901, after his death.

III. SIGNIFICANT THEORIES REGARDING--

A. BELIEF. Nietzsche presented a radical reinterpretation of philosophical activity. He had the concept that philosophers before his era had misinterpreted their own achievement, thinking themselves as providing an objective reading of things when in fact they were projecting upon humanity a willed structure that was a particle of their own implied moral prejudices.
