tudy by Pearlstein (2002) demonstrated that eating disorders tend to be associated with the comorbidity of psychiatric disorders. Anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder were associated with depression, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, substance abuse, childhood sexual abuse, and personality disorders. Rogers and Petrie (2001) also demonstrated that psychological correlates are related to anorexic and bulimic symptoms. These authors found that patients with eating disorders demonstrated obsessiveness, dependency, over-controlled hostility, assertiveness, locus of control, and self-esteem issues. However only obsessiveness and dependency factors were significant predictors of AN or BN (Rogers & Petrie, 2001).
