ate purchase and mortgage financing that would be (1) most effective within the context of preparing consumers to become knowledgeable home buyers and mortgage applicants and (2) most effective in assuring that real estate sales persons and mortgage specialists achieve an optimal balance between productive activities and consumer education activities. Issues such as the escalating cost of real property, the relative affordability of residential real estate, and the cost of mortgages were not within the scope of the research performed for this thesis.
Home ownership is a stabilizing factor in society. Thus, the promotion of home ownership is a worthwhile societal goal (Sauliner, 1992). The problem investigated in this project holds the potential to dissuade people from attempting to become home owners. The development of a partial solution to the problem, therefore, established the importance of this thesis.
