The Edge

This is an excerpt from the paper...

In the 1997 movie, The Edge, starring Alek Baldwin and Anthony Hopkins, the bear symbolizes nature's true power over man. The bear provides the main source of conflict in the movie. Nature is seen as the enemy of the millionaire and his employee as they struggle with hunger, cold, and a man-eating bear when their plane crashes in a remote part of the Alaskan wilderness. The bear is indifferent to the weather and satisfies its hunger by consuming one of the three survivors of the plane crash. Unlike the men, the bear has no need to make fire for heat, warmth, or protection from the elements. In the movie, the bear embodies the power and sheer force that nature has. Ironically, the men who've crashed are powerful men in the outside world who lose this power in the wilderness. They must rely on each other in order to survive. The problem is the younger man wants to older man to die.

The details about this movie are as follows: The Edge stars Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin as the main characters who have survived a plane crash. Lee Tamahori directs the movie was directed. It was released by Twentieth Century Fox on September 26, 1997 and is rated R.

The plot of The Edge uses elements of allegory to tell a message. In this movie, there is a challenge by two characters to survive in the wilds of Alaska. The allegory is the struggle the two survivors have to survive the animosity that exists as a result of the fact that Alek Baldwin's character, Bob, i

Bob also resents the fact the Charles is married to the woman he is having an affair with. Bob's internal conflict relates to whether or not Charles knows or suspects the affair. It also seems at times during the movie that Bob wants to admit the affair to Charles. Charles, and intelligent and observant individual, is seen by the audience as observing certain interaction between his wife and Bob that lead the viewer to suspect that Charles may already know of his wife's infidelity with Bob. One of the interesting plot twists in the book is that Charles, the wealthy but eccentric bookworm billionaire, demonstrates throughout the book that he is a man of action. With every new crisis, Charles takes appropriate steps to address the crisis. In contrast, Bob's inability to cope with the survival challenges faced by the two men seems out of character. His inaction in burying a bloodied bandage almost costs him his life since blood attracts the bear to their campsite. There is symbolism in the action of Bob and the actions taken by Charles. Bob basically wants to 'stay put' an
