In summary, Pender's comprehensive model of health promotion can be used to predict health behavior and identify factors which can improve this behavior. The promotion of health behavior is influenced by personal and behavior-specific cognitions and affect. These factors need to be addressed and modified by the nursing action. Pender noted that there are many opportunities for the Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) in health promotion. It is suggested that the APN incorporate research findings regarding health promotion into clinical practice and to integrate this information into protocols and community programs (Pender, 2002).
