Computers in the Criminal Justice System

ystem (LEADS) is a computer database that inventories crimes, persons, possessions and other variables involved in police matters, including a criminal history database. PHOENIX provides a full suite of computer-based training, including application simulations that train users how to access LEADS (Law & Order, 1999, p. 118). Once a law enforcement officer is authorized for particular application functions, PHOENIX presents a set of courses specific to the application functions authorized. Once they complete the training and master the content and application simulation, the user can then use that part of the LEADS application. For example, the Illinois State Police has integrated LEADS and PHOENIX to make its criminal justice system state-of-the-art in its crime-fighting technology arsenal (Law & Order, 1999, p. 118).
