Tamasi Coffee, Inc.

This is an excerpt from the paper...

Tamasi Coffee, Inc. (TCI), is an importer and distributor of premium green coffee beans from Latin America, chiefly Colombia and Costa Rica. It distributes green coffee to multiple coffee-roasting companies and dealers and roasted coffees to retail and restaurant outlets throughout the United States. Incorporated under the laws of the state of California and headquartered in San Francisco, TCI desires to enlarge the scope of its distribution by exporting roasted beans, either in bulk or packaged, to Canada in the near term, and, in due course, to expand beyond North America to three countries in eastern Europe: Romania, Hungary, and Poland. This document sets forth the background of TCI, information about the growing Canadian market for coffee, and the strategy for the company's international market entry, with a view toward obtaining debt financing in the amount of $500,000 to fund the process.

Ethnic British account for 28% of the population and ethnic French for 23%. Those of mixed background account for 26%, with other ethnicities represented as follows: other European 15%; Amerindian 2%; Asian/African/Arab 6%. The economy of Canada, though much smaller than that of the US, runs more or less in parallel with it. The estimated 2004 gross domestic product is US$958.7 billion, with per capita income set at $29,800. The affluence of the country helps explain the steadily increasing demand by Canadian consumers for specialty coffee products. Canada's political structure is that of a confederation (with the UK) and, domestically, a parliamentary democracy. Though completely self-governing, Canada models its political system on that of the United Kingdom. The chief of state is Queen Elizabeth II, represented by a governor general, but the head of gove
