omy has boomed, despite occasional downturns, thanks in part to exports. Thailand's central bank has taken steps to ensure that consumers overseas find the output of Thailand's factories to be a bargain. As a result, Thailand continues to enjoy solid job growth.

The majority of all employment in the country, however, is in its agricultural sector, and the majority of all women who are employed in Thailand work in agriculture. Even though Thailand's export nonagriculture/manufacturing economy has grown significantly in recent years, the implication of these figures is that the pattern of development and access to its benefits has been uneven across all segments of the economy. It is at this point that the impact of globalization on the smaller sectors of Thailand's economy in general and on women in particular becomes relevant.
