MacDonald was writing in 1983 and might be surprised to see the number of black roles on television today, their variety, and indeed the number of distinctly black shows that are presently on the air, as well as the number of blacks working behind the scenes. Black faces are more accepted on television, but this does not necessarily mean that television yet reflects the black experience to any great degree or that black audiences are being served as well as white audiences.
