The fifties are called the age of Ike, and this was a period of prosperity, population growth, and population shift from the cities to the suburbs. This was an era of relative peace as far as shooting wars were concerned, but it was not a peaceful period in terms of the fear and paranoia that infected society because of the Communist threat, both real and perceived.
