Women face much the same situation. For some women although, the color of their skin is the same as that of their white male counterparts, their innate behavior and work styles are often fundamentally different--and are not ones valued by most organizations. To succeed, they must make themselves over in much the same as their minority counterparts. Even more important, minority and female workers have to give up a significant part of themselves to succeed in today's workplace. Their values, feelings, priorities, and cultural mores are ultimately discounted by the organization's establishment--which is reflected over time. As one woman executive stated, "I'm not me anymore." A staff member who reaches this point is well on the path to burn out (Leatz, and Stolar 59).
