Forrest Gump. He is accepted by different strata in society as profound--he goes to a society party and discovers he can play the piano brilliantly, something he did not remember being able to do, making him the hit of the party. People may read into him what they want to see, just as they do with Chauncy in Being There or Forrest Gump in his film. Usually, Jim is judged by his casual-to-the-point-of-sloppy dress, his stubble, and his deliberate mode of speaking. People who know him better like him, but they also realize that he is slow, that he does not make connections between people and events the way others do, and that he is haunted by images and flashbacks from his drug-taking past.
