cohol abuse is the tendency of older people to drink more frequently than younger people, probably because of more free time and fewer responsibilities interfering with their drinking (Krach, 1998).

There are not only ethnic, racial, and age associations, but gender associations with substance abuse. While more men than women are alcoholics, women tend to become alcoholics more easily. They reach the final stages of alcoholism at an earlier age and they may drink for a much shorter period of time before drinking alcoholically (Randall, et al., 1999) They have different symptoms than male drinkers and experience greater difficulties in recovering from alcohol abuse unless provided with supportive services.

These associations have included genetic, physiological, cultural, and economic factors. There seems to be an interplay between a complexity of factors in the creation of an individual who drinks alcoholically. Another factor may be stress, which is an environmental factor that is not easily al
