Company-wide change is generally frightening to people. Consultants involved with assisting in such changes emphasize the need for communicating clear visions of the future to employees so that fear does not overwhelm the company's change operations. Most current changes in organizations involve either changes in corporate culture or downsizing. Oftentimes, both are changed at the same time. In those instances, it is important that employees understand clearly what the change will look like and what they can expect in the future (Taninecz, 1997).

The first thing that is needed, according to consultants, is that executive vision. But, that vision also must be communicated. If it is not communicated, resistance is likely to grow, and progress will not be made as rapidly as is desirable.
