The projected makeup of Parliament based on the December 2 election shows that the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) occupy

316 seats compared to the 234 seats they held following West Germany's last federal election in 1987. Compared to the 1987 election, the Social Democratic Party now holds 47 more positions. The Free Democratic Party hold 31 more seats, the Greens lost 37 seats, and the Party of Democratic Socialism gained 14.
