onse for all of the conceivable situations which may be encountered. Nevertheless, the conditioned response approach to learning is widely applied in formal typing instruction.

The third of the basic learning theoriesinsight approach, also known as the perceptual response approach, holds that all learning of whatever variety has as its basic characteristic a progressive differentiation from a more general perceptual field (Maslow, 1966). This approach to learning provides individuals with the abilities to solve problems through the use of perception and imaginationonce the individuals have been given some concept of what the complete perceptual field of interest involves. Through the application of this approach to learning, a teacher can present problems to individuals, where the imagination of the individuals can be employed in the development of solutions, and where the teacher can discuss decisions of the individuals being taught in order to provide guidance through feedback assessment. This approach to learning has been described as "a period of observation leading to understanding. By observing the problem for a while and thinking about it, the subject is able to solve it" (Poffenberger, 1987, pp. 252253). This approach to learning has a significant role in formal typing instruction.

Learning style is an individual behavior. Skinner (1953) held that it is necessary to look outside of an organism for an explanation of its behavior. Following through with this premise, Skinner (1974) concluded that it was possible, through the manipulation of variables external to an organism, to both predict and modify its behavior. The principal means by which such manipulation is accomplished is, according to Skinner (1974), reinforcement. Reinforcement may be either positive or negative.

Reinforcement is applied, according to Skinner (1953) within the causal chain of behavior. Skinner (1953) viewed the causal chain...
