Predictors of burnout were said to be: job stress levels, job satisfaction levels, degree of job challenge and degree of role clarity. Teacher or administrator characteristics of sex, years of experience, years in current position, assignment consistency with training, and grade level were not significant predictors of burnout.

In a more current study, Friedman and Farber (1992) surveyed teachers regarding their perceptions of stress and burnout. Most teachers reported that burnout was due to lack of job satisfaction and that dissatisfaction was caused by working with those who failed to understand the complexities and stressors inherent in their job.
