(Francis & Chin, 1987). Other estimates are much higher. For example, Masters, Johnson and Kolodny (1988) have predicted that virtually all seropositive subjects will eventually develop AIDS.
Epidemiological statistics on AIDS are alarming. In the mid 80s, there were approximately 62,00 reported cases; however, the U.S. Public Health Service estimated that the number of HIV-infected persons is around 1.5 million (Siegel & Gibson, 1988). Moreover, the Public Health Service projects 270,000 AIDS cases by the end of the year with approximately 179,000 deaths.
