In a similar, but slightly more complex, model, Hersey and Blanchard (1982) combine a twodimensional matrix organized around taskbehaviors and relationshipbehaviors with the situation variable of follower maturity. According to them, this variable means that leaders need to be changed as the level of maturity of the follower increases, because different combinations of taskbehavior and relationshipbehavior are required. For example, as follower maturity increases, relationshiporiented behavior needs to increase.
