The plan of the Athens acropolis consists of a group of several buildings, the most prominent of which is the Parthenon (temple of Athena Parthenos). Other important buildings include the Propylaea (entrance gates), Temple of Athena Nike (goddess of victory), and the Erechtheum (dedicated to Athena Polias and a series of minor deities). Each of these buildings were built almost entirely of marble and elaborately decorated with carved moldings and sculpture, but none was so magnificent as the Parthenon: "The Parthenon is the most beautiful of Greek temples." Its entrance is oriented toward the rising sun on its eastern side.
