Participation in formal church activities across a wide variety of denominations has traditionally been the purview of people not in their first youth รป although of course many young people do participate, although perhaps only at the behest of their parents. The recent increase in U.S. church attendance across denominational lines as the Baby Boom generation ages is one testament to this. None of this is to say that the Catholic Church, like other churches, must not be attuned to the needs of young people; however it is useful to remember that things in this area are probably never quite as dire as church elders of any generation think that they are.
