In addition to the observer's descriptive task, I shall consider such evaluative variables as will demand some inference and evaluative judgment (Quality Ratings) from observed and recorded behaviors. I shall collect examples of behaviors that will have defined points along the continuum of excellent-to-poor. Inasmuch as increasing complexity tends to lower observer reliability (Reid, 1978), with a view to ensuring accurate recording I shall record only one behavior at any given point in time.
The recording technique to be used will be interval recording, whereby a pupil's pre-selected ten behaviors will be checked and recorded every ten minutes. An observation form will be designed and used for this purpose. Filling it will require a relatively low level of inference, except for certain values included and so identified in the rating scale.
