The first step in applying for an airline job is to match your skills, experience, and background to the available opportunities. It is impossible to list every position that might be available with every airline, not to mention the many other job opportunities related to the airline industry. Many job titles and requirements may vary from airline to airline, and not every airline fills every position.

As a rule, large airlines operating from major airports have more specialized job requirements than smaller airlines at smaller airports. For example, the Station Agent for a commuter airline at a local airport performs duties that are divided among half a dozen positions at a major airline operating from an international airport. The positions listed in this guidebook are typical of the positions available at most airlines.

To use the guidebook, first fill out the following check list to decide what general sorts of positions you may be interested in and qualified for. Then, go though the job descriptions to refine your search and identify particular positions you could apply for. When you have settled on a position you'd like to apply for, your next step is to seek out prospective employers. For that step, turn to Section X.
