(3). Again, the weakness to her approach is that her personal connection with the religion leads her to adopt an unnecessarily critical perspective toward other religions. Perhaps this is an inevitable result of such a comparative approach, but it runs the risk of alienating the non-Buddhist readers who she probably most wants to reach. Usually, this attitude that Buddhism is the "best" religion is expressed indirectly. For example, on the first page of the book Ross writes:

In a gentle way, without militant crusades or unyielding dogmatic emphases--with, on the contrary, the quiet force of what might be considered historic inevitability--Buddhism from its beginning slowly spread out from northeastern India (3).

Of course, the reference to the "militant crusades" calls to mind the Christian religion, and "unyielding dogmatic emphases" is clearly meant to sugg
