Bondone obtained a job for Giotto with a wool merchant, but Giotto ignored his duties and instead hung around artists' workshops until Cimabue took him in for training. There is no proof for either of these stories, but it is certain that Giotto was in Florence in his formative years and that he began his apprenticeship in about 1280 (Eimerl, 1967, 82-83). T
