American companies seeking to do business in emerging markets do not have to "go it alone." US Commercial Centers are now located in Brazil (Sao Paulo), Indonesia (Jakarta) and will soon open in China (Shanghai). These centers give companies a way to exhibit at an affordable venue, and offer greater visibility than would otherwise be available if the companies did not have the assistance of the centers.

The centers were the idea of two Democratic members of Congress and were authorized in 1992 as part of the Jobs through Exports Act. The centers were included in the Act because it is a widely held belief that companies which have international connections are able to provide jobs domestically.
