Bravo discovered that employers were remarkably inflexible about unscheduled absences which resulted from parental responsibilities. Since women still carry the bulk of the responsibility of caring for children even when both parents work, and since schools and child care providers typically will not accept ill children, this inflexibility affects women far more than men (Dauer 2).
